Nepal is facing medicine shortages that could lead to deaths within weeks

Medical officials said on Thursday that shortages of life-saving medicines in Nepal blocked from reaching hospitals due to protests could lead to a severe crisis.

Hospitals report having to push surgeries out for several weeks and that patients are unable to get to medical facilities due to fuel shortages.

Doctors said that it is so bad that they believe patients could begin to die within two weeks.

Trucks full of medicine have been blocked from entering the country for the last few months due to protests by Nepal’s Madhesi ethnic. Officials in Nepal said that even while protests subsided for brief periods, Indian authorities at the main border crossing would not allow trucks to cross.
